Mirror Rice Cakes (Kagamimochi)

Carpe Diem #643 mirror rice cakes

New years food for us growing up was always pork and sauerkraut.  This year we were at friends and had hoppin johns a dish made with blackeyed peas and served over rice which was their traditional food.

every new year
sauerkraut and pork
for good luck

New Year’s tradition
hoppin’ johns
traced to civil war

  1. I'm sure the little mouse was delighted with the temple offerings!

  2. Love the little mouse.. A happy one I hope.

  3. It's so nice to read how you have your own traditions. I have read several personal traditions. Nice series Dolores.

  4. Love this series of haiku and all the various traditions.

  5. Very nice!!!
"Hoppin John" is pretty popular not too far south of my home --- I much prefer it to pork and sauerkraut!! :)
