Strolling Yesterday

strolling yesterday
astonished by the pine trees.
they seemed to copy
the heavy rain laden skies
imitating it’s wet lay.

under the wet sky
a kitten shelters
at the base of a pine
pawing after
an unexpected moth

Cor van den Heuvel's Poetry

Carpe Diem Special #177 Cor van den Heuvel's "a tide pool", three favorite haiku

Cor van den Heuvel's Haiku

a drop of water
floats by the canoe
on a curled leaf

neon puddles
in front of the waterfront bar
sound of a blues

on the bathroom hamper
morning sunlight fills the sails
of a toy boat

the rusted paperclip
has stained my old poem
wind in the eaves

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
After reading Cor van den Heuve's poetry I had a hard time choosing favorites.  I choose the poems above for how they capture the simplicity of everyday life and wrap it in beauty.  All yesterday evening I thought about ordinary things and finding that spark of interest.  So today, I have been on a roll and written over 30 poems, mostly haiku.  ( Don’t worry Hamish I will not post them all here, besides I don't want to be in competition with Cor van den Heuvel's wonderful poems.)
my old poem found-
yellowed paper creased and worn
memories and ink fade
through the curtain
afternoon sunlight flowers
damp laundry
"Those Fireflies"
Carpe Diem #147 Special "Those Fireflies" by Yosa Buson
fireflies blink
in the wet grass
as night draws
~~~

fresh cut grass
scents the evening breeze
fireflies twinkle

~~~
on a summer’s eve
lost in the tall grass
chasing fireflies
Iio Sogi "this autumn sky"
ah, for coolness,
it rivals the water's depth -
this autumn sky
© Iio Sogi (1421-1502)
this autumn breeze
tangled with scents of summer
ah, delight
ah, the warmth
golden fields of wheat beckoning
in the autumn sun
Richard Wright "keep down this block"
Carpe Diem Special #124 Richard Wright's last haiku of this month
keep straight down this block,
then turn right where you will find
a peach tree blooming
© Richard Wright
walk across the yard
stop beside the old oak tree
smell the linden blossoms
drive down the old lane
past the pond and round the bend
mimosa in bloom
Richard Wright -Troiku
Carpe Diem Special # 122,  Richard Wright's 3rd haiku
I give permission
For this slow spring rain to soak
The violet beds.
© Richard Wright
I give permission
for mayhem in the garden
weeds left unchecked
for this slow spring rain to soak
the parched ground prays
on a hot june day
the violet bed
yawns with yellow dandelions
awakened from sleep
inspired Haiku
under decaying leaves
one green shoot
shows itself
Their Watching Faces
Carpe Diem Special #120 Richard Wright's "their watching faces"
use the 5-7-5 rule ...
Their watching faces,
as I walk the autumn road
make me a traveler.
© Richard Wright
their black eyes watching
my movements in the garden
crows in the maple
in the autumn wind
the mournful cry of the geese
circles around me
lonely autumn road
hurriedly walking homeward
in freezing cold rain
"in time with the moon"
and the night streams in
from east to west, traveling
in time with the moon
© Tomas Tranströmer
in it’s fullness
the moon spills it’s light
into the dawn
~
as the moon fades
morning light on the ocean
glistening with hope
~
as day breaks
tide pools overflow
at my feet
longing for someone
Carpe Diem Special # 113 haiku for inspiration
longing for someone
I sit by the gate and draw
eyebrows on a melon
© Shiba Sonome
My attempts:
without you
days and nights mixed
rain falls
_
snow falls softly
your face swirled in the mix
eyelashes crystalizing
_
winter’s cold settles
your impression marks the bed
where dreams will not rise
_
curling up alone
in the imprint where you slept
tears no longer flow
