Mary and Joseph
Enter from the side aisle
her toenails lime green
his arm gingerly offered
narrator recites
old familiar passages
rickety manger
enhanced by two wide-eyed cows
sheep noisily crawl
ears flop and tails waggling
followed by shepherds
hurrying to their own tune
sweet angel faces
unsure of their position
voices raise in song
quietly filling the church
Christmas story told
as so many years before
Silent Night echoes
on the lips of the parents
innocent smiles beaming
Lovely image portraying a celebration of love. I like how you incorporated the Choka in this story, nicely done!
ReplyDeleteThanks! I wrote my first choka this morning and then when I saw the angle prompt has to write a second one!
DeleteIt's the whole play and it's one of my favorite Christmas Stories.. It's the ULTIMATE Christmas Story! Thank you for sharing!
ReplyDeleteSo very glad you enjoyed it!
DeleteSo sweet -- the imperfections of life versus the perfection of the story itself -- and those uncertain, squirmy little angels! :D
ReplyDeleteThe imperfections are the highlights. Last year my granddaughter was the donkey but kept leaving the nativity scene to to join the dancing of the other characters.
DeleteBrings to mind memory of past Christmas program when rickety manger split during practice...love the Silent Night echoes on lips of parents...well-done!
ReplyDeleteThanks. I brought our rickety manger home last year and renailed it.
DeleteWhat could be more endearing than Mary with lime-green toenails? ;)
ReplyDeleteShe was adorable, and so tender with the baby.
DeleteBravo! This is a beautiful choka - the story flows well and loved how you brought it to life ... interesting how you superimposed the present and past.
